Practicing self-care is crucial to making sure that your recovery continues on the right path. Small changes in our every day lives can have a huge impact on our overall health and wellbeing. Here are six, sustainable steps to strengthen your recovery:

Step One: Get Moving. Find ways to be active that you enjoy and do them on a regular basis. Exercise is such a key element in keeping your brain healthy and your recovery strong. There are so many benefits to exercising, such as reducing stress, managing weight, improving brainpower, and more.

Step Two: Eat Right. Your diet can have a huge impact on your mental and physical health. Try to avoid crash diets that can leave your body feeling unsupported and aim for a diet of balance and moderation. Try to eat fresh fruits and vegetables and rule out any food allergies that might cause any unnecessary strain on your body.

Step Three: Manage Stress. Letting stress build in your life is a very quick way to sabotage your recovery. It’s important to find small things that you can do each day that let you unwind and recharge. It’s difficult for some of us to change our ways of thinking about self-care. Taking time for oneself to practice self-care is not selfish it’s a crucial part to living a balanced life. And it’s imperative to ensuring your recovery is healthy and strong.

Step Four: Sleep. Many of us think that we can run on little sleep. But studies have shown that shortening sleep by even an hour or two a night can have drastic effects on our mental and physical wellbeing. Studies have also shown that by unplugging from our multimedia an hour before bed can have a great impact on how well we sleep. So try turning off the TV early and silencing the iphone.

Step Five: Foster Healthy Relationships. When first in recovery, relationships usually need an overhaul. We have to say goodbye to the unhealthy ones and rebuild the ones that might have been strained prior to sobriety. Take the time on a daily, weekly or monthly basis to check in with those relationships that are most important to you. Find activities that you enjoy doing and look to meet new people who enjoy doing them as well. Studies have shown that those with meaningful friendships live longer and fuller lives. Take the time to nurture love and friendship in your life.

Step Six: Recharge with NTR. After your initial NTR Brain Restoration, there are boosters that you can do periodically to help recharge your brain and keep your recovery strong. If you feel the need to recharge, it’s important to listen to your body and let NTR help keep you mentally and physically at your best.
