“My name is Billy. I am 41 years old and live in New Orleans. I have been in and out of treatment centers since I was 20 years old. Heroin and other opiates were my drugs of choice. The longest period that I have been without drugs is two and a half years.
I was raised in a good family with two loving parents. Growing up, I was athletic and involved in organized sports. While in college, I spent a semester abroad and was first introduced to heroin. Upon returning to the United States, I continued to use heroin. Eventually I was treated and placed on Methadone, which I ended up abusing too. Each detox was very graphic and life threatening. I knew each time that the toll on my body was worse and worse.
In early 2006, I was rushed to the Emergency Room. As I lay on the bed, I watched my blood pressure climb as the ER staff cut my clothes from my body. Five days later, I woke up in an ICU with no memory of the seven seizures I had coming off methadone and benzodiazepines. Four days after being released from the hospital, I was using again.
In late November, my family flew me to Atlanta and handed me over to ExecuCare. At first I was very skeptical about this treatment since it was all natural and rendered on an outpatient basis. I found it hard to believe that the treatment would eliminate cravings that I have had for half of my life, and at the same time that I would detox. Furthermore, detoxing without medication was totally foreign to me. After having a physical, lab work, and meeting with the doctor one on one, I was started on an IV of amino acids specifically for me and my addictions. Throughout my 10 days of treatment, I spent my time in a home-like atmosphere watching movies, reading, eating balanced meals while being closely monitored by the medical team. It was unlike any treatment or attention previously provided – it was truly one on one with the focus on me as an individual.
The 10 days passed rather quickly and I completed the treatment with no drugs and no problems. There were no seizures, trembling or other painful side effects, which I had experienced in the past. The treatment could not have worked better. The cravings that consumed my life were gone. I have been clean for 60 days and still have no cravings or desire to take drugs. I feel like a different person. The staff at ExecuCare provided a comfortable private environment and treated me as a person with dignity and respect. Thank you
